Set it Off - Gallusness

Ok so this month I had a belter of an idea, and sat on it for three and a bit weeks. Then on finally putting pen to paper realised it was going to be too difficult to properly bring it to life. One quick reinterpretation later and I came up with an idea for a simple clean image. Gallusness has gone spiritual and calm amid the current turmoil of the world. It¹s just a scene of serene calm as someone is saying goodbye to something dear to them. Setting whatever that is to wherever it rightfully needs to go.

No joss sticks were burned during the illustration process.

Hey this is cool.

I love that it's so totally the opposite of my thought process! Where mine is dirty, rough and noisy, yours is serene, calm, quiet. It's cool that the same title can bring such opposite reactions from different people.

I wonder if it's maybe a bit too simple, that if you'd started sooner there might have been a bit more detail, but that is being critical.

The composition is great though, and your eye is drawn around the image really well. Is the 'sky meets water' the horizon? It also looks like it could be a waterfall, maybe because of the position the cliffs/land join the sea. Has a bit of a Lord of the Rings about it...

I'm really intrigued as to your original idea and how it would differ from this!

Seconded.

Do you draw your concepts out? I always thumbnail then out as soon as poss as it tends to weed out those impossible ideas.

Cheers guys.

This month I was mid sketching out when just thought arrrrrrrrrggggh NO!? So did a very quick sketch of this composition and traced over it.

It's very simple but was in that place of how much time would I need o throw at it to really bring it to life.

As for the other idea it was radically different was going to be a monumentally huge Bunny suicide/Honda car parts chain reaction ad/Bertha machine style illustration. Seemed cool at the time, ha.

That would have been well cool... And really time consumming! Be nice if we could do this for a living really!
